The screening of the film Angry Video Game Nerd, scheduled for 3 p.m. in the J.A. de Seve Theatre on Wednesday, August 6, will now take place on Thursday, August 7, in the much larger Hall Theatre, at 9:45 p.m. Tickets for Angry Video Game Nerd were among the first to sell out at the Fantasia International Film Festival.

The Fantasia International Film Festival has added one more day to its lineup, thus gving fans another chance to see (in alphabetical order) Angry Video Game Nerd, Han Gong-ju, The Huntresses, I am a Knife With Legs, The Midnight Swim, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and Zombeavers.

I have only seen two of them – The Huntresses, and I am a Knife With Legs. The Huntresses is a South Korean action comedy about three women who are bounty hunters. It is set in the 17th century. It is entertaining in a mainstream kind of way, and seeing it in the presence of the Fantasia audience will make it seem funnier still.

I am a Knife With Legs is funny and entertaining, too, but in a more unconventional way – it is strange, silly, quirky, inventive, and lots more. The multi-talented Bennett Jones wrote the script, directed it, edited it, did the colour correction, wrote the songs, made some drawings AND took on the main part of French singer Bené who is hiding from an assassin. I recommend it highly!

As for the others, I have read Zombeavers is about a cheesy film about zombie beavers, just as you might expect, though it is NOT a Canadian film as many of us assumed. It was one of the midnight movies earlier in the festival which should tell you something right there. One of my friends said it was surprisingly good for “that kind of film,” hit all the usual buttons, etc.

While waiting in line the other night, I heard someone praising a film to his friends, so of course, I had to ask him which one he was talking about. It was The Midnight Swim, the man was a stranger, I don’t know what his tastes are, but he quite impressed with it. He said that the sound was very well done too, which indicates he’s not someone who just wants to see fist fights, buildings being blown up, or splattered brains.

As the photo above makes clear, the screening of Angry Video Game Nerd, scheduled for 3 p.m. in the J.A. de Seve Theatre on Wednesday, August 6, will now take place on Thursday, August 7, in the much larger Hall Theatre, at 9:45 p.m. Tickets for Angry Video Game Nerd were among the first to sell out at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
